Adaptor House Sans — v1.0

A derivative of Atkinson Hyperlegible (Braille Institute of America / Applied
Design Works), adapted specifically to push readability further for use as
Adaptor House's official font family.

Base font
---------
Atkinson Hyperlegible was chosen as the starting point because its legibility
claims are backed by direct testing with low-vision readers plus documented
legibility research, and it has a real adoption track record (Google Material
Design, Android, public-sector use) rather than a single unreplicated study.

What was changed, and why
--------------------------
1. X-height +4% on core lowercase letters (a c e m n o r s u v w x z)
   - These are the flat/round lowercase forms with no ascender or descender;
     scaling them (anchored at the baseline) raises apparent x-height without
     disturbing cap-height or ascender/descender proportions.
   - Rationale: reading-speed research (Legge & Bigelow, "Does print size
     matter for reading?", 2011) links larger x-height to improved legibility
     at small sizes and on screens.

2. Tracking +25 units/1000em per side bearing, applied to every glyph
   - Rationale: RNIB ("See it Right") and general low-vision typography
     guidance recommend slightly increased letter spacing to aid character
     discrimination.

3. Word-spacing +12% beyond the tracking increase (space glyph only)
   - Wider word gaps make word-shape recognition easier during fast reading,
     complementing the letter-spacing change.

4. Character disambiguation (I / l / 1, O / 0, etc.) left as inherited from
   Atkinson Hyperlegible — already a strong, well-tested design in the base
   font; not reworked in this pass.

QA notes
--------
- All 4 weights pass structural validation: correct glyph counts, no negative
  advance widths, no out-of-range bounding boxes, name tables resolve
  correctly (family/subfamily/full name/PostScript name).
- Visual specimen (specimen-before-after.png) included for side-by-side
  comparison against the unmodified Atkinson Hyperlegible at 14/24/40px.

Known limitations / next steps if you want to go further
----------------------------------------------------------
- X-height change only applied to unaccented lowercase; accented variants
  (é, ü, etc.) and ascender/descender letters (b d f h k l t / g j p q y)
  were left at original proportions — a full x-height pass would need
  hand redrawing of those glyphs, not just scaling.
- No new hinting was generated; screen rendering at very small sizes may
  benefit from a hinting pass.
- Only TTF (desktop) formats included in this package; WOFF2 conversion is a
  quick follow-up if you want web-ready files for this specific version.
